#NYFEST18 TOURNAMENT RULES
Tournament Schedule / Overview
Teams taking part in the competition shall be divided into fifteen groups split between three skill categories. In the ‘Group’ phase teams shall play a round-robin against others in their group.
Team should refer to the official game schedule for exact match-ups and timing.
Game Duration & Timing
Group phase games will be 20 minutes in duration without half time.
Elimination round games will be 15 minutes in duration without half time.
Each team must report to their assigned field at least 5-minutes prior to each match. Teams who are not prepared to play at their designated time may be forced to forfeit that game.
If a team voluntarily forfeits during the tournament, they must first bring it to the attention of tournament organizers (who will involve opposing teams where necessary).
Teams that leave the tournament before the conclusion of their group stage games will result in exclusion from future tournaments.
Eligibility and Rosters
All players must sign a waiver (preferable the electronic waiver at nyfest.org/waiver) and get a wristband from tournament staff before they are eligible to play. Wristbands must be worn throughout the day to indicate eligibility
Tournament play will consist of 5 players on the field at a time – 4 field players and a goalkeeper.
Teams may not pick up players who have played in games with other teams. Doing so is grounds for tournament disqualification.
In the Just For Kicks division there is a mandatory coed rule. Each team must have at least one male and one female on the field at all time. The same rule does not apply in intermediate or competitive divisions.
Uniforms and Equipment
Teams will be provided uniform shirts by NYFEST. All players must wear these jerseys in all tournament games. Team names will be printed on the front of the jerseys.
Equipment including athletic shoes, shin guards and long socks are mandatory and will not be provided by NYFEST.
Win = 3 points
Draw = 1 point
Loss = 0 points
In the event of a tie on points at the end of group play tie-breakers will be as follows:
(1) Goal difference
(2) Goals Scored
(3) Goals Allowed
(4) Coin Toss (Head to head removed)
Forfeits will automatically result in 3 points for the opposing team with a result of 5-0.
The composition of tournament playoff brackets will vary based on skill category. The variance will be as follows:
Just-For-Kicks Divisions: The top team from each group qualify automatically plus the six teams with the highest point totals (tie breakers based on the section above).
Intermediate: The top team from each group plus the three best second place teams will qualify.
Competitive: The top 4 teams will qualify for playoffs
Playoffs Round Game Structure
Playoff round games may not end in a draw
Should playoff games be tied at the end of the game, the winner will decided via a penalty shootout. The penalty shootout will consist of a first round of 3 players followed by alternating players until a winner is determined.
General Game Rules
Generally speaking, games will follow regular FIFA soccer rules.
At least one referee will be provided for all games.
Off-side rule does NOT apply. If the goalkeepers have possession with their hands, they can NOT punt the ball directly into play. He/she must throw the ball or play the ball from their feet.
The goalkeeper can NOT pick up the ball via a back pass from his own team.
Slide tackling is not allowed. What constitutes a slide tackle will be left to the judgment of the referee.
Substitutions are unlimited, but may only happen during a stoppage of play only and only with the permission of the referee.
Yellow Cards will be issued according to a Referee's interpretation of the rules.
Should a player receive two Yellow Cards during a match, a red card will be issued. Players receiving a red card are ejected from the game and their team must play down a player.
All Red cards (regardless if it was issued after a second yellow card) will result in a 1 game suspension.
Fighting / unsporting behavior: Any player caught fighting or engaging in unsporting behavior may be banned for the length of the tournament.
Discipline and Game Conduct
Sportsmanship and Fair Play are emphasized at all times. Poor sportsmanship, abusive language and violent behavior will not be tolerated.
All referee decisions are final and cannot be reviewed or reversed by tournament staff.
It is expected that Captains will ensure their team's good sportsmanship and fair play.
